SARS is a branch of the Nigeria Police Force under the (FCIID) which is responsible for fighting crime in Nigeria.

SARS officers are do not wear Nigerian police uniforms nor wear badges.

Over the years there has been different social campaigns on social media using the hashtag #ENDSARS to demand that Nigeria's government should scrap and end the services of SARS because of the embarrassment faced by the members of the public (successful youths expecially).

The campaign and social media protest gained momentum when some young popular Nigerian celebrities like Simi,Dr Sid,Falz etc shared their experiences with SARS. 

Rapper Falz in his viral music video titled 'This is Nigeria' also shed some light on the activities of the group in Nigeria.

Campaign groups have mobilized and organized series of protests in Abuja,but so far,the government has refused to heed to the call of the masses,the campaigners has threatened to continue protesting if the government fails in scrapping SARS.

Recently the current Inspector-General of Police has banned FSARS of the Nigeria Police Force from conducting stop and search operations on roads except when necessary and also that SARS officials do not have the right to search anyone's mobile phone.

The IGP also stated that SARS officials must operate in official uniform clearly marked for identification and has promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery.  

The IGP also promise to monitor the activities of SARS through the implementation of police’s monitoring units and the X-squad.

Furthermore the IGP disclosed that SARS officials will undergo training, continuous assessment and psychometric test to determine their suitability for the job.
