  • 1. The main aim of the LIRS is to make Lagos State less dependent on allocations from the Federal Government by designing and enforcing its tax collection and revenue scheme.
  • 2. LIRS is saddled with the responsibility of collecting taxes in Lagos state, over the years LIRS has increased the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
  • 3. The IGR moved from a monthly average of about 600 Million Naira in 1999 to approximately 20.5 Billion Naira in 2013, thereby making Lagos State less dependent on proceeds from the Federation Account.

  • 4. The LIRS is also designed to make tax assessment and payment convenient for taxpayers.
  • 5.  LIRS commenced the establishment of mini tax offices in markets in 2006, and till date, 40 of such offices are in operation.
  • 6. In January 2008, LIRS introduced the Self Assessment Filing System for individuals, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
  • 7. The LIRS hosts the annual Lagos State Taxation Stakeholders Conference,In line with the management’s policy of taxpayer. The LIRS has been hosting this conference since 2007.
