Wizkid whose real name is Ayo Balogun is one of the most popular musicians in Nigeria and Africa. 

Wizkid’s style of music can be discribed as a fusion of Afrobeat ,Afropop,reggae,dancehall and hiphop all in one. 

He was also listed by forbes as being among the Top 10 Bankable and richest African artists in 2017.

1. Real Name

Wizkid’s real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun,he gave himself the Wizkid at the beginning of his career.He was born on 16 July 1990 in Surulere.

2. Career

Wizkid began singing at the age of 11 in local churches.He was a vocalist and also was a choir member.He was also an underground song writer before he became a star.

When he was still an up coming artst, Wizkid revealed that Naeto C was one of the people that coached him,he also co-wrote Banky W's "Omoge You Too Much", a song off The W Experience album,He also worked with Naeto C, OJB Jezreel, Ikechukwu, and M.I while developing and learning the art of song making. 

3. "Glorious Five"

Funny as it might sound,Wizkid was actually once a member of a gospel singing group called ‘Glorious five’ which he formed.

The Glorious Five actually released an album,but didn't have an impact,Wizkid then decided to leave the group and pursue his own solo career.

4. Fatherhood

Just like most celebrities,Wizkid has a child out of wedlock from his baby mama whose name is Oluwanishola Ogudugu.He named his son Boluwatife Balogun. His son was born in October 2010.

Initially Wizkid denied that he was the father of Boluwatife Balogun but later her owned up in October 2013 after he wished his son a happy birthday. Wizkid is rumored to have also fathered another child from another baby mama,a rumor that he is yet to confirm. 


5. Lil’ Prince

When the Gospel singing 'Lil' Prince' didn't seem to be working out,he rebranded as the pop singing 'Wizkid' and became a superstar.

Wizkid used to be called Lil’ Prince when he was still a gospel singer.

The music industry crave for controversy and beef and Wizkid has given them a lot of it. In 2017 there was a heated beef between him and a fellow popular Nigerian musician 'Davido' that set Nigeria's social media on fire.


He has also engaged in rifts with several artists including his boss Banky W, former label mate Skales other artists like Dammy Krane,Saeon,Tonto Dikeh,Samklef and popular blogger Linda Ikeji.

Wizkid found fame when he was still with EME music,a record label owned by Wizkid’s former boss Banky W. 

He left EME music and created his own record label named Starboy.

He announced that Mr Eazi,Ghanian artists Efyta and R2bees were part of the artists that he signed into his new record label,however in an interview Mr Eazi revealed that he wasn't signed by Wizkid,he also stated that they were mutual business partners.

9. International 

Wizkid succeeded in taking African music to the international level. In 2016, Wizkid achieved international recognition following his collaboration with Drake on the global hit, "One Dance".

'One Dance' reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

10. Guinness World Record  

Wizkid became the first Afrobeats artist to appeared in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to Drake's hit song "One Dance",he also became the first ever Nigerian

11. School Dropout

In 2009 Wizkid dropped out of Lagos State University (LASU) to focus on his music career.


He later decided to juggle his studies and music career and enrolled into Lead City University, but he later dropped out after completing two sessions.

Wizkid has received a lot of awards in his music career,he has been nominated five times at the MTV Europe Music Awards, three times at the American Music Awards, once at the Grammy Awards,and four times at the World
