However with the rise in the exchange rate and Nigeria's current economy crises plus the new Nigerian custom duty tarrif on imported cars many Nigerians have no other choice than to stick to public transportation.---
Q1:How do I import vehicles into Nigeria?
A: They are two major ways of purchasing or importing your car into Nigeria,its either you buy from cotonou Benin republic,then you pay the customs duty at the border and drive it back to Nigeria,or you ship from overseas to a port in Nigeria where you will pay the necessary Nigerian customs clearance fees.
Q2: What is the current cost of clearing cars in Nigeria?
A: The federal government of Nigeria introduced a new tariff.
Prior to that the size and year of your vehicle was the determining factor of how much you will pay,meaning that back then a car manufactured in year 2000 will attract a very low tariff and a car manufactured in 2017 will attract a much higher fee example:
- Cars
- 2000-2003: N250, 000
- 2004-2006: N270, 000
- 2007-2008: N400, 000
- 2009: N600, 000
- 2010: N700, 000
- 2011-2012: N800, 000 and above.

- 2009: N800, 000
- 2010-2012:N900, 000 and above.
- Commercial Buses (10-15 Passengers)

- Trucks
- 1990-1995: N260, 000

But that is old news,currently with the new tarrif which was kicked off in 2015, the cost price of the car would be used to determine the tariff to be paid.

If you haven't properly cleared your vehicle,or you have questions about your car and its status,you can verify the status of your car by visiting any one of the four zonal offices of the Nigerian customs:
- Zone A Headquarters, No. 1 Harvey Road, Yaba, Lagos;
- Zone B Headquarters, Kabala Doki, Kaduna;
- Zone C Headquarters, Nigeria Ports Authority, Port Harcourt
- Zone D Headquarters, Yelwa Tudu Road, Bauchi State.

Or you can verify by sending an SMS to any of these numbers: 094621597, 094621598 or 094621599.
Furnish them with details like your C-number, the year you paid your duty and the port or through which your car was imported into the country.
Wait for an SMS response with details about your car,if however your customs clearance wasn't authenticated,then go ahead and make arrangements and get your car properly documented.
Cars brought into Nigeria before 2015 will enjoy a 60% rebate.
Make sure you get your car authenticated to avoid harassment from custom officers,that might impound the vehicle on the basis that it is a smuggled vehicle.
i bought a santafee hydai 2006 model from cotonu i every other thing was done plate number drivers licence etc but i have not paid the duty , how about to take the car to nigeria from ghana , please how do i pay the car duty to avoid any form of embarriasment ?
ReplyDeleteMy brother, the reason why you did not guess any feedback until now I guess was because you acted as if you were not in Nigeria, customs has banned important by land on Vehicle, it has to come by sea. If you bring that car in to Nigeria by driving it, in means no duty can be paid on it.
