How To Get Yellow Fever Vaccination Card/Certificate In Nigeria


The yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease present in some
parts of Africa and South America. Vaccination is usually the best protection against this virus. 

However before you can travel to some countries like Ghana,Benin Republic,South Africa or Egypt you must have a valid yellow card at the point of entry.

For most countries,having a yellow card is now one of the important documents needed before you can travel to some countries. 

This post contains details on how you can easily get a yellow fever vaccination card or certificate in Nigeria. 

How To Get A Yellow Card In Nigeria

As stated above the yellow fever vaccine provides protection against the virus for travelers,the vaccine is available in an injectable form,the vaccine should be administered to adults and children over 9 months.

Currently Nigeria has confirmed Yellow Fever cases in Kwara, Kogi, and Zamfara State. 

Children over one year are expected to have their yellow card after vaccination. It is better to get the yellow card from accredited government hospitals in your area,because most times calls are placed by immigration agents of the country the individual is traveling to in other to confirm the authenticity of the yellow card and also to be sure that the vaccine was administered. 

You will be charged N1,500 in order to obtain the yellow card from a government accredited hospital in your area.

If however you were not able to get your yellow card from a government accredited hospital in your area,you can also get your yellow card from Nigerian International Airports and borders such as: 

International Airports:
  • Nnamdi Azikwe International airport, Abuja
  • Murtala Mohammed airport, Lagos
  • Port Harcourt International airport, Port Harcourt
  • Margaret Ekpo International airport, Calabar
Seaports:
  • Ibaka Seaport

Also Note: 
  • (a) The yellow card is usually issued within one hour,after the vaccine is administered (injection).

  • (b) Ensure that you get your yellow card from a valid accredited source to avoid being issued a fake yellow card.

  • (c) Yellow cards gotten from border and international Airports are usually much more expensive than government hospital issued yellow cards.
  • (d) A Yellow Fever card is valid 10 days after vaccination,and valid for 10 years, but according to the world health organization as of 11 July 2016, existing and new Yellow Fever vaccination certificates are valid for life. 
  • (d) A vaccination waiver (Yellow Fever Vaccination Waiver) can be issued by your doctor for medical reasons,however this might not be honored when crossing borders.
  • (e) Yellow cards gotten from private hospitals might not be accepted.
  • (f) Vaccine givers in Government medical agencies/hospitals are usually only available on weekdays.
