Q: What Is A Cut Off Mark? 

A Cut off mark is basically a score set by a particular school that must be met by any prospective student before he or she will be admitted into the University.

There has been speculations and rumors concerning 'cut off mark' set by JAMB and tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Q: What Is JAMB’S Official Cut Off Mark For 2020/2021 admission exercises? 

According to the official press release by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB),it has not released any official cut-off mark for the 2020/2021 admission exercises,however they plan to do so after policy meeting.  

Nevertheless we can still estimate what will be JAMB’S official cut off mark and also what different tertiary institutions will set as cut off marks by making reference to their previously set cut off marks some years back while we wait for JAMB'S official cut off mark.

Our research team found out that the previous minimum cut off marks for admissions into universities in Nigeria was set at 120, polytechnics and colleges of education were set  at 100, while innovative enterprising institutes was pegged at 110.

However tertiary Institutions are allowed to raise their cut off marks for admission above the minimum set by JAMB,but not below the minimum mark set by JAMB.

What this implies is that some highly ranked tertiary institutions   like UI, OAU,UNN Etc can set their cut off marks above 200.

Q: What About The Cut Off Mark Set By Tertiary Institutions For Post UTME Screening? 

Tertiary Institutions In Nigeria have the right to set their own cut off mark,prospective students that chose the tertiary institution will be invited for a Post UTME Screening exercise by the school if they were able to reach or pass the cut off mark set by the tertiary institution.

Usually a screening date will be announced by the school,followed by the sale of screening forms.

After some weeks successful candidates that passed the Post UTME Screening exercise will be offered admission.

Q: Nigerian Tertiary Institutions/departments & Their  Cut Off marks?

Nigerian Universities departments have different requirements that prospective students have to meet in other to be offered an admission,some school's departments have lower requirements while some departments/faculties like Medicine & Surgery,Law Etc have a higher requirements and higher cut off marks.

Sometimes students that do not score high enough or meet a particular departmental requirements will not be offered an admission,in some cases they might be offered admission in a less competitive department.

There is no general cut off mark for Nigerian tertiary institutions and also their departments.

Q: Basic Requirements Before JAMB Examination? 

Usually Candidates are expected to have a minimum of six(6) credits in WAEC/NECO In not more than two(2) sittings,some universities might require the candidate to be at least

Normally the admission unit of the tertiary institution you chose will release information on how and when the Post UTME screening exercise will commence,including the sale of Post UTME screening form.

Information regarding this is usually updated on the school's official website and different media outlets like national newspapers.

Q: How To Check The 2020/2021 Admission List After Post UTME Screening Test / Exam? 

The names of successful candidates is usually released on the school's official websites and in some cases the list will be published in daily newspapers.

Candidates are advised to log on to the official school website of their chosen school to check the admission list and their admission status or contact the school's admission unit.

Candidates can also log into JAMB's official website jamb.org.ng to check for admission status,admission letter printing and change of admission letter,this might incur some extra charges payable to JAMB.
